Czecko Pilsener Style Lager

Czecko is named after the country where pilseners were born.  At the outset of the Industrial Revolution, when coal was replaced by the more highly processed and more efficient coke, barley maltsters began to make malt that was much more pale than had been previously possible.  The original golden beer was brewed in the city of Plzn in what is now the Czeck Republic.  A relatively new variety of yeast was smuggled out of Bavaria where cool fermentation temperatures were ideal for the selection of bottom fermenting yeast.  Combined with the extraordinarily pale malt and soft water of Bohemia this beverage became widely popular in a very short time.  The style has been copied throughout the world since then, most successfully by American mega-brewers.

Lagers take more time and attention than ales.  This is due to the peculiarities of cool fermentation temperatures and long maturation times at cold temperatures.  However, the resulting product is smoother and more refreshing than any ale, when done right.

Czecko is made with pure, soft, deep-well water, high quality Pacific Northwest two-row malted barley and the finest imported hops for a unique local interpretation of this old-world classic beer style.
